Facility Decor

  • Maintainable and reliable uniqueness— something different than home but still
    durable and fixable.
  • Old West comfort—cowboy should not be an excuse for shoddy work or rough living conditions; although we want an Old West flavor, we still want the comfort that technology provides us today.
  • Décor is neither cheapest nor fastest—be okay with spending more money and time
to get the right look and feel.
  • Do the research—use era reference material instead of your gut and other’s opinions.
  • Obviously Christian—the truth of God’s Word should be communicated often and
    in many different ways.

Opening Questions

  1. Why is décor hard to determine?
  2. Most everyone has an opinion about it whether they are knowledgeable or not.
  3. When does décor get out of hand?
  4. Décor impacts form, but has to be balanced with function; the tension between form and function creates the limits and options.

Closing Thoughts

  • The goal is to not be able to tell the difference between your oldest building and your newest building. Décor should merge the facility built at different times into one facility.
  • Put equal effort into little details and big picture.
  • Signage and colors are the easiest start; lighting and furniture are the hardest finish.
