Game Show Night

Wheel of Fortune

Nametag: A wheel with the ladies’ names

Icebreaker/Activity: Build a huge “wheel of fortune” for the center of your room but instead of winning money prizes, the ladies would have to answer the question or finish the phrase that they land on. The questions/phrases could range from what is your most embarrassing moment to “I will never ever do…” You can also do a rendition of guessing the phrase using power point images.

Devotional or Object Lesson: Study various wheels of the Bible. What is earthly fortune as opposed to spiritual fortune.

Who Wants To Be a Millionaire

Nametag: A dollar sign

Icebreaker/Activity: Play the game similar to the game show but use Bible trivia questions. By brainstorming on fun, creative lifelines, you can really get the audience involved.

Devotional or Object Lesson: Proverbs 31:11 — no need to strive for the millions; just be a good steward of the day-to-day responsibilities of your home. A husband trusts in a virtuous woman, not a rich one. Or ask this question: “What’s your lifeline?”

Family Feud

Nametag: Use a family silhouette in the background of the tag

Ice Breaker/Activity: Do a survey in your church prior to the activity to get the “top 100” or “top 10” answers to the questions. Some sample questions: Name one item you most often forget to bring to church; What is the average length of pastor’s sermons; What is the most popular dish that always makes it to potlucks; What is your favorite book of the Bible; What is your favorite male Bible character; What is your favorite female Bible character; Name a Bible animal; Give the name of an angel; Give the name of an apostle; Give the name of a disciple; Name a miracle that Jesus did; Name a martyr; Name one of the ten plagues; Give the name of a person who rose from the dead; Name one of the beatitudes; Name one of the ten commandments.

Devotional or Object Lesson: Covering “Fight Right” rules based on Bible truths would be practical for all in attendance. Also remember that the game show is based on the “most popular answers given.” A devotional on doing what is popular or doing what is right would also be appropriate.

The Price Is Right

Nametag: A price tag or coupon

Icebreaker/Activity: We saw a similar activity done in a church but they called it “The Price Is Tight” (another appropriate title would be “The Budget Is Tight”) where the church used several lower-priced kitchen and household items and played about three pricing games. More than any of the other games shows, this event would be appropriate for mothers and daughters. Use the icebreaker time to share budget tips or shopping tips that help save a dime here and there.

Devotional or Object Lesson: The best things in life don’t come with a price tag. Sharing budget or stewardship principles would be practical. Use the phrase “The Bible Is Right” as an off-shoot to your devotional. Count the cost before beginning. Proverbs 31 theme where the price of a virtuous woman is far above rubies.

Name That Tune

Nametag: Use musical notes in the background

Icebreaker/Activity: This would be especially fun during the Christmas season because even your visitors would be familiar with the songs. Instead of playing a tune for the ladies to name, you can act out tunes for ladies to name.

Devotional or Object Lesson: Music is a difficult topic to speak on without making waves, but it can be done. Talking about the background of familiar hymns gives context to what we sing. Ladies also discover that hymn writers go through the same trials we do and still find hope in God. The hymn or the life of the hymnwriter or composer can be a springboard to a biblical principle you teach.

Beat the Clock

Nametag: A time card or a clock

Icebreaker/Activity: During your icebreaker time, share household tips that save time. Have a contest to see how quickly ladies can do household types of events.

Devotional or Object Lesson: James 4:14 and any principles on time management found in the Bible.
