Golden Rules
Simple Ways to Put Others First
This list of Golden Rules on is not complete. You have room to add some of your own golden rules. You may want to add them as a part of your team training.
At first this list may seem simple, but you will find that most of the really frustrating things in life are the continual transgression of the little things. This list becomes practical when people start adding words that make the general rules very specific.
For example, the generic rule, “If you open it, close it” becomes, “If you open the trash can lid, then close the trash can lid.”
If you’ll take the time to personalize the list, you will begin to hear some of ways that people bug other people. This list becomes ways to put others first. Use Philippians 2:2-4 and 1 Corinthians 10:24 to encourage your team to put others first.
♦ If you open it, close it.
♦ If you turn it on, turn it off.
♦ If you unlock it, lock it.
♦ If you break it, repair it.
♦ If you can’t fix it, call someone who can.
♦ If you borrow it, return it.
♦ If you use it, take care of it.
♦ If you make a mess, clean it up.
♦ If you move it, put it back.
♦ If it belongs to someone else and you want to use it, get permission.
♦ If you don’t know how to operate it, leave it alone.
♦ If it doesn’t concern you, mind your own business.
♦ If you scheduled it, be on time.
♦ If you can’t be on time, tell those affected.
♦ If you can’t remember, don’t fake it.
