Mentoring

The Kick-Off Night

by Linda Hubbard

We have discussed how mentoring is not a program or a ministry but rather a one-on-one relationship.  The mentoring objective is to build relationships that influence others.  We have also covered how to find faithful women and have listed qualities of a good mentee.

A good start to any mentoring ministry is important.  The following details will help you structure an evening that will get you started right.

The KICKOFF NIGHT is the unveiling of the mentors and mentees.  It is always an anticipated event.  This is what it is all about—the one-on-one relationships that are going to result from the Orientation Coffee and the Prayer Day.  Everything has been leading up to the two women meeting each other and beginning a mentoring relationship.

Agenda for Kickoff Night

7:00–8:15 PM

  • Welcome Mentors
  • Mentor Training
  • Question / Answer
  • Pass out profile cards

8:15 PM

  • Meet Mentee
  • Refreshments

8:30 PM

  • Discuss Mentoring commitments/confidentiality
  • Announce date of Half-Time Refresher
  • Schedule first meeting for Mentor and Mentee

8:45 PM

This is a workable structure for an organized mentoring ministry or program.  The ORIENTATION COFFEE is geared to inform what mentoring is, the PRAYER DAY is designed to match the mentors and mentees, and the KICKOFF NIGHT is where the one-on-one mentor/mentee relationship begins.
