Nehemiah’s Approach to Motivating People to a Task

Has a love for his people – 1:1-4

  • Do I love the ladies God has given me?
  • Do I show my love in measurable ways?

Seeks the Lord’s intervention – 1:4-11; 2:4

  • Do I pray for wisdom and guidance?
  • Do I study the Word of God for my personal relationship and not just for my ministry needs?

Respects authority – 2:1-2

  • Am I willing to submit to my pastor’s leadership?
  • Is my husband supportive of my role in the women’s ministry program?

Asks for resources – 2:3-10

  • Do I know what I need to get the job done?
  • Have I separated the wants from the needs?

Understands task – 2:11-16

  • Do I have a mission statement that defines what I am doing?
  • Does my local church and pastor bless this ministry?

Communicates burden – 2:17-18

  • Have I communicated to the pastor my goals and hopes for the ladies in my group?
  • Have I shared those burdens with the Lord?  With the ladies?

Keeps proper perspective – 2:20

  • Am I trying to compete with my church and/or pastor?
  • Have I allowed the busyness of ministry to cloud the power of God’s Word?
  • Are my goals realistic?  Are they eternal minded?

Organizes and delegates for the task – 3:1-32

  • Am I willing to share the load?
  • Have I learned the importance of growing people and not just using them?

Faints not at adversity – 4:1-5

  • Do I see trials as a stepping stone to growth?
  • Have I prepared for those battles by arming myself with truths and principled choices?

Continues in prayer – 4:4-5; 4:9

  • Have I forgotten that God answers prayers?  That He hears me?
  • When I want to give up, is prayer the first thing that goes?  Or, when I want to give up, is prayer the first thing that I realize I haven’t been              doing?

Leads with action – 4:6

  • Do I show servant leadership?
  • Do I walk the talk?

Listens to his people – 4:7-12

  • Do I listen to the ideas and burdens of the ladies in my group?
  • Can I formulate Bible answers in response to their cries for help?

Challenges people to fight and build – 4:13-18

  • Do I desire the ladies to grow?
  • Am I willing to fight alongside the ladies in my group, even those who might rub me the wrong way?
  • Do I see growing ladies as a threat to my ministry position?

Offers solutions to possible pitfalls – 4:19-20

  • Am I grounded in the truths of God’s Word so I can lead ladies through hard times?
  • Do I really believe that the Bible is the solution for all of man’s troubles?

Perseveres until the task is done – 4:21-23; 6:15-16

  • Am I able to handle criticism and welcome instruction without causing division?
  • Can I lovingly confront?
  • Do I plan to stick it out despite the hard times when I don’t think God is reaching hearts?
