Never Retire: Reassign Yourself

  • Retirement is many times associated with a life of ease and self indulgence—make it your goal to never live for yourself and your own desires; reassign yourself to new ways to give God glory.
  • Honestly appraise your situation and your limitations, then figure out how you could best give God honor and glory—your needs have already been taken care of (Matthew 6:33), so don’t worry about how you are going to survive.
  • Contentment with your situation does not equal apathy—be intense in your next season of life and look forward to the options it will give you.
  • Be happy about coming to the end of every day of your life tired and knowing you have given everything you’ve got to God’s work—God’s requirement of a steward is not a specific amount of production but rather of responsible use of what God has given you.

I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only. O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
Psalm 71:16–19
