The Benefits of Women’s Ministry

by Ruth Huffman

Why should I be involved in a women’s ministry?

First, to reach women and disciple them. Second, to meet the unique needs of women of all ages and all walks of life. Third, to encourage ministry as a way of life. All believers are called to minister and serve. For believers, ministry is not an option. Ministry emerges from a relationship with Christ.

A women’s ministry must seek to reach women for Christ, disciple them, and equip them to reach others. Because of our salvation, we have the gift of life to share; and we are equipped to serve because of our spiritual giftedness.

A women’s ministry is just that—a ministry not a program. It is not a stand-alone program in the local church. A women’s ministry is a piece of the puzzle that makes up a body of believers. It should be biblical, balanced, and fit squarely into the over-arching goals of His church. The focus is building biblical values into daily living through life-changing discipleship that leads women into a life that reflects Christ.

1. Women grow in their relationship with the Lord as they participate in Bible study, discipleship, prayer, and ministry. 2 Timothy 1:9
2. Entire families are affected as women are drawn closer to the Lord. When you influence a woman for Christ, you reach all those in her sphere of influence as she lives out her Christianity. Acts 16:31
3. The church grows numerically. As women invite friends, neighbors, and co-workers to participate in women’s Bible studies and activities, prospects are discovered and invited to become a part of the church. Acts 2:41-47
4. Women find their niche—a place where they can grow and serve. Women’s ministry is designed to help each woman feel welcomed and become a part of the church family. Ephesians 2:10
5. Meaningful relationships with other women are developed. Women’s ministry opens the door for relationships between women from different backgrounds, ages, and life stages. Proverbs 27:17
6. Women get help to face spiritual warfare victoriously. Women need to stand alongside one another as they daily walk in a world that is in bondage to sin.
Ephesians 6:10-18
7. Older women mentor and younger women are mentored. Women need women who can share insights the Lord has given them. This is a biblical way to learn about life and relationships. Titus 2:3-5
8. Women are encouraged to discover, develop, and use their spiritual gifts in service for the Lord. 1 Peter 4:10
9. Coordination and organization are provided for inreach and outreach to women. A structure of organization provides a network of information so each woman knows what is available. This is especially helpful to new women who are inquiring about service opportunities for women. 1 Corinthians 14:40
10. Through ministries in the local church, today’s women are ministered to and encouraged in the Lord. Where else can they find a group of women with whom they can worship, share, pray, and study? Hebrews 10:24
